death to page views

Steve Rubel is one of my favorite bloggers! I love his vision, his perspective and his lens on things. Steve recently spoke at the AJAXWorld conference and had some very interesting points. (This is a conference that I would of loved to attend!)

“As this happens en masse, the page view as a model will cease to exist,” Rubel declared. “I’m giving it three years.” -Steve Rubel

“Widgets in media represent a fundamental shift and a massive shift,” Rubel said. “People now measure success not by how many people are on the site but by how many people interact with the content no matter where it lives.”

That’s what Rubel’s me2revolution is all about: the massive expansion, not just of participation, but of content that is redistributed and repurposed at will across the Internet.

So why is this important to me? To LifeChurch.tv? Why should you pay attention to this? For me one simple statement…I just want the people to interact with our content. I frankly don’t care where that is!

How about you?

whats on the whiteboard?

I am a whiteboard nut. LifeChurch.tv was kind enough to “wallpaper” my office with 3 full walls of whiteboard wallpaper. It literally is roll on whitepaper wallpaper that really rocks! Sorry for the sidebar there…. As for the whiteboard, I am not really sure that I could live without one. I have come to realize now how my thinking process works, and a whiteboard is a huge part of how I process through ideas and turn ideas into reality. Let me try and put it into text here.

Step 1 for me: Think, process mentally and sketch onto journal paper, or plain white paper.
Step 2 for me: Next, flush out paper idea onto a whiteboard. (very abstract)
Step 3 for me: Process it more, make side notes… go crazy on the whiteboard.
Step 4 for me: Process it more, take more notes on the whiteboard, push the idea further and document it.
Step 5 for me: Bring others in (I grab innocent bystanders around my office) and cast the vision of the idea/project and take more notes.
Step 6 for me: Transpose whiteboard into Google Doc and flush out all details into a true scope or project document.
Step 7 for me: Print the Google Doc and tape it to the white board and then whiteboard around it all the stuff I forgot or missed.
Step 8 for me: Merge all the additional whiteboard ideas, etc into Google doc.
–> Now I have a complete project scope document, or a complete plan to execute/create something. <—–

I know, I am a total freak! I am aware of that, and after thirty some odd years I have come to terms with being a freak. What is really cool about this though, is I did not fully embrace how I process until recently. Now that I have a grasp of how my mind works and processes stuff I have found that I am much more creative and much better and getting things done!

Over the next few weeks I will share what this process looks like with pictures.

creative playing

Since moving to the apartment we have had to adjust our outdoor playing. Coming from a house with a backyard I think we were a little spoiled having a built in option to swing and play. So, this afternoon we played outside the apartment.

Reese Hanging on a Tree Reia Hanging on a Tree
Ellie and her squeaky toy Reese and Reia hanging out

The games we played included:

Who can hang from the tree while being tickled
Run to the building and back as many times as you can
Ring around the tree
Hide the baby doll, and find the baby doll

It was a great Sunday for sure!

the blogging church

I am continually humbled by the success of The Blogging Church. I don’t think that Brian and I ever fathomed that so many people would have such great things to say about it. It is actually quite easier for me to stay humble because Brian was really the real brains behind this project!

Anyway, I just looked and see that we have 19 reviews on Amazon, and still hold a 5 star rating. I am guilty of not writing reviews on Amazon, so I need to get much better about that. If you have read the book, and have not reviewed it on Amazon we would really appreciate if you took the time to do that and give us your feedback as well.

I just found this video on YouTube… The Blogging Church in Australia, really cool.

ear bud madness…

The ear buds and creature speakers were heavily focused on these tunes this week!

-> My Chemical Romance, The Black Parade
-> Foo Fighters, In Your Honor
-> Audioslave, Out of Exile
-> Ben Folds
-> Dave Mathews Band, Some Devil

What’s your recently played selection look like?

The Audacity of Hope- Barack Obama [currently reading]
Good to Great- Jim Collins (book study / revisited)
First Break all the Rules- (book study / revisited)
Now Discover your Strengths- (book study / revisited) [currently reading]

lunch with terrell about ministryCOM

With all my challenges with Entourage over the past few days I forgot to mention a great lunch with Terrell Sanders the other day. Terrell is the president of Main Street Enterprises, a company dedicated to helping churches and non profits with web site design and development. Terrell is also the founder of ministryCOM.org.

A few months ago Terrell invited me to deliver the opening keynote at ministryCOM this year, so we were going over the details and talking about all the sessions. I plan on kicking off the conference with a talk entitled Communication Evolution Revolution! Something along the lines of communication is no longer evolving slowly…there has been a revolution. I will cover technology aspects, cultural aspects and more… I have a long way to flush the talk out, but the great thing about it is a lot will change by Sept 13-14th!

Hope to see you guys in Nashville. (more to come about this later)
