Hi, My Name Is Productivity Killer

Wow, I just watched an amazing video interview of Jason Fried, President and CEO of 37Signals. I love that company.

Anyway, there is a ton of great information…but it slapped me in the face with killing productivity. I personally love walking around to the team members, seeing whats going on, providing feedback and direction…thats just what I do…often! Jason says I am an idiot. Well, not directly…watch the video.

Also, I am now leading a team that is very distributed, and is only going to get more and more distributed. Currently just over 1/2 of the team I lead is local, and the rest is across the country and International. I am always looking for ways to get better at this, and I have a lot of learning to do. 37Signals has 4 local staff in Chicago, and 4 remote…one reason I enjoy hearing from Jason for sure.

If you guys have any suggestions on how to get better at leading a distributed team I would love to learn. Oh yea, if you want to join the team…that would work as well!

(HT to Brian for the video link!)

Random Musings

A huge “I AM SORRY” if you got RSS spammed from TerryStorch.com. I just saw in Facebook that a ton of posts resubmitted due to the change over to the new site, and new server. Please forgive me for spamming your RSS reader!

I am fired up that the US Open is on! Watching Federer right now. Dude, there is no other athlete in any sport that is as dominate as Federer. Not even Tiger! It is SICK….

BlueHost.com is now hosting TerryStorch.com. They have been great to work with, and really cost effective for a blog.

The Ninja did the design. The ninja is a stud!

The Communication Revolution talk has morphed just about 15 times…and I think I have landed the plane! I still reserve the right to change it the night before….and even change it on the fly as I am speaking. I am sure that will happen. If you have not registered for MinistryCOM yet, do it now!

Really want to watch this video, but have not had the chance to yet.

Watching The Daily Show right now….but time to shut it down. Have a great night.

First Day of Kindergarten

Today was Reia’s first day of Kindergarten. Everyone always tells you…“it goes fast….” Oh my gosh, it feels like yesterday she was born. Totally nuts I tell ya. So here are the pictures…you knew they were coming.

Adobe Flash Drop Kicks Competition with “Moviestar”

Early this morning Adobe dropped the bomb that we all have been waiting for.

Headline: HDTV Quality Web Video Reaches the Masses With Industry Standard Video Codec in Flash Player

There are a ton of technical details that could be listed here…but I will spare you. If you want the hard core details, visit one of the lead developers blog here.

For me, here is what I am fired up about:
* Amazing video quality that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux
* Radically improved audio quality
* Standard H.264 support and integration
* Optimized for dual-core processors
* Harware scaling, improves Full Screen option and CPU load

A very large project that will kick off in a few months just radically improved because of this release! Better late than never, right?
