<strike>Tomorrow</strike> Today Robin and I got to “teach” a class together at the LC.tv December event. We <strike>should have</strike> had a blast doing it. The two classes will be held back to back, and are only 30 min. Yeah…blogging in 30 minutes! Here is the plan.

What is blogging?
Wiki has good info here.

Who should blog?
Anyone can blog…but that does not mean you should! Thinking about it? Read here…here…maybe here. Still unsure? Go here.
How do I get started?
WordPress.com, Blogger.com, Tumblr.com or Typepad.com

Blogging tips and tricks!
Use an RSS reader. I recommend Google Reader.
Like pictures? Use Flickr.com
So much more to talk about…only 30 min!

FAQ’s…right here. Ask your question in the comments area, and Robin and I will respond!

Let us know if you have more questions.

A huge “I AM SORRY” if you got RSS spammed from TerryStorch.com. I just saw in Facebook that a ton of posts resubmitted due to the change over to the new site, and new server. Please forgive me for spamming your RSS reader!

I am fired up that the US Open is on! Watching Federer right now. Dude, there is no other athlete in any sport that is as dominate as Federer. Not even Tiger! It is SICK….

BlueHost.com is now hosting TerryStorch.com. They have been great to work with, and really cost effective for a blog.

The Ninja did the design. The ninja is a stud!

The Communication Revolution talk has morphed just about 15 times…and I think I have landed the plane! I still reserve the right to change it the night before….and even change it on the fly as I am speaking. I am sure that will happen. If you have not registered for MinistryCOM yet, do it now!

Really want to watch this video, but have not had the chance to yet.

Watching The Daily Show right now….but time to shut it down. Have a great night.

Today has been a day of unsubscribe! About 2 months ago my Google Reader had just over 500 RSS feeds it was sucking in and I was consuming….1 month ago that list was narrowed down to about 300 or so.

Currently, there are 125 subscriptions and my personal goal is to narrow that down to 50. I might even get crazy and cut that number in half and shoot for 25….but I can not go public with that….way to much pressure!

So what is the criteria to stay in my 50? I really don’t know. I guess I would have to say bring some value to my daily life is some way shape or form. That might be spiritual value, tech value, leadership value, something off the wall value, challenge my thinking value, or the core value of a good laugh! Just bring me value….that’s all I am looking for.

Time for the great value of sleep. Oh yea…the goal. I will be down to 50 by the end of the month!

Question: How has Blogging Positively Impacted Your Church?

Answer: Eric Stillman (Hartford, CT) replied

I began last October as the pastor of a small, pretty invisible evangelical church in connecticut (http://www.newlife-glastonbury.org). I began blogging right away by simply posting once a week: sometimes reflecting theologically on a cultural phenomenon, sometimes expanding an idea from the Sunday sermon, and sometimes raising difficult issues for discussion.

I’ve found that the blog has so far been our most successful outreach tool (not sure what to think about that…), drawing people who have really appreciated finding a church willing to ask tough questions & listen respectfully to different opinions. One post was even picked up by the religion writer of The Hartford Courant, the state paper, adding a whole new audience.

I also import my blog to my Facebook account, allowing a lot of people I know from many different venues to hopefully be challenged to think through what they believe and what Jesus is all about.

The main benefit of blogging seems to be giving a window into our church & pastor’s values & beliefs for anyone who visits our site. In a state where most people don’t trust evangelicals, the blog has been a great bridge-builder.

On Saturday I proposed ending sucky blog titles. [post] The post was a proposition, and a call to action, but there was no “how to”. (on purpose of course)

When you do a Google Search on this topic, here is what you get. Just under 1 billion results….holy cow!

So, a billion ways to write great blog titles…no, that is to complicated. Here are my thoughts on the topic.

How To Write A Great Blog Post Title:

-> Learn from the best. Newspapers. Follow the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, etc. They understand how to write a great headline.
-> Make it clear, and present your post in a concise manner.
-> Do not over hype it! You will loose credibility.
-> If you are presenting stats or numbers, get them in your title.
-> Choose your words carefully….focus on action if possible.
-> 8-12 words as a rule of thumb is a good idea.
-> Write your title first….then your post! Remember your title is VERY important.

Great additional resources if you so wish to dive deeper into this topic.
