By Josh Lowensohn – July 12, 2007, 9:00 PM PDT

A buddy of mine just sent me this link. I have been out of the blog world for a few days and missed it.

Looks like Google is opening up there Apps to nonprofits. This is huge for the local church for sure. With just moving your church to Gmail as a church staff email solution your church could save thousands of dollars! Churches spend a ton of money just fighting spam, managing servers, tech staff, etc….

If your church is looking for a great email solution and you don’t want to spend money fighting spam, or managing Exchange servers take a look at Google….it’s free!

Forget the iPhone…give me the Gphone by Google.

Think I am joking…. Well, let me give you some highlights from the Google:You ain’t seen nothin’ yet article by Peter Nowak, Financial Post.

“It (Google) has reportedly approached the Federal Communications Commission recently about obtaining wireless spectrum, the base upon which mobile-phone networks are built, in the U.S. agency’s next auction.”

“A major splash is only a matter of time, and when Google — with its mammoth US$163-billion market capitalization — does dive in, phone company takeovers and Apple gizmos will look like quaint curiosities.”

“Google’s plan has been underway for some time and is now gaining momentum. For at least the past three years, the company has been buying up swaths of unused fibre-optic cable — so-called “dark fibre” — around the world.”

“Rumours surfaced this week that the company is looking to buy GrandCentral Communications, a Web startup that allows users to consolidate their different home, work and mobile phone numbers into one through an Internet application.”

“Google is one of the biggest customers of the phone and cable companies — YouTube is responsible for about 10% of all Internet traffic.”

“The next big thing for Google is consistent with their overarching strategy, which is to control the advertising dollar. It just so happens that the mobile platform is one of the platforms they’re targeting,” he says. “The only question is, how do you deliver ads on a phone in a way that isn’t disruptive to callers?”

Thought I was joking….who knows. Maybe a Gphone, maybe Google takes over AT&T, maybe Google become the dominate overall media company…..I can tell you this, the hype for a Gphone would be just as big if not bigger than Apple’s iPhone. I would guarantee that!
