Last night the digerati team kicked out another very cool tool….Facebook Church. I am officially taking this weekend off, so this blog post is going to be very short! I will let pictures do the talking.

tools i recommend for distributed development

For the past month or so I have been working in, and leading a distributed development environment. One of the digerati projects that is going…known as YouVersion, is being developed from Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, and India. This has forced me to learn all about distributed development, and manage it.

So here are the tools that we are using, and really loving.

1) Basecamp by 37Signals. Project Managment and collaboration made simple.
2) Concept Share. An amazing online design collaboration tool.
3) iChat AV with Gmail Talk. Instant messaging is key for communication.
4) Subversion. A version control system. We will be implementing this tool very soon!

These tools have been key for our success so far. I will admit, I am such a relater, that everything in me just wants to walk out my office and talk with the team and point on the screen and show exactly what I want….so that has been a difficult adjustment. But, because of these tools, the process is getting better and better.

facebook group dedicated to church bloggers

This weekend I started a group on Facebook called The Blogging Church. It is a group dedicated to readers of The Blogging Church.

As I am typing this post, there are currently 67 members of the group, and many are quite active.

Here are a few things that you can do in the group:

1) Start a new topic in the discussion board if you are looking for help with blogging.
2) Post your blog on the wall, and attract new readers.
3) Connect with some amazing church bloggers.
4) Upload a photo of you with The Blogging Church book.

Here is a sample of what you will find on the wall!

I’m curious to hear from some of ya’ll about balancing “church stuff” and “life stuff” on your blog… or do you have separate blogs? what drives your decision? i’m wrastling with this issue right now.

Jump over to the group here, and give David your feedback.

facebook is slow

I have no idea if it is the unyielding power of Bobby….sending all these new users to Facebook…but wow, Facebook is really slow!

Not sure if you realized this, but Facebook grows by around 100,000 new users per day! Amazing…

Anyway, just wondering if you guys noticed Facebook being a little slow over the past few day.

format the macbook pro!

Last night I had to format and reinstall OS X on the MacBook Pro.

The laptop was crawling, and it just got way to much of a pain in the rear to deal with! But now, now we are back baby. The laptop is smoking fast again.

So allow me to debunk any myths that you don’t have to rebuild Macs….that is just a load of crapla! (If you are one of the crazy PC fanatics, this is your post to load with comments!)

need help!!!

Ok, here is another shout out for really talented folks. We just added a new digerati team ninja at LifeChurch.tv, but we are still needing help. We have a huge need for talented developers. Right now with all the ideas, projects, and future projects we are going to keep our designers, developers and digerati team busy!

Right now…we are looking for full-time or part-time contractors that are focused on Web 2.0 development.

Some details:

* Thorough knowledge XHTML and CSS and be able to hand-code to the current web standards.
* Thorough knowledge of JavaScript including AJAX and JSON
* Experience working with a JavaScript library such as YUI or similar framework such as jQuery, script.aculo.us or moo tools

blackberry shortcuts

There has been a lot of iPhone hype over the past month. And yes, I share some of the responsibility in my little circle for some of the hype as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love the iPhone…I think that the iPhone is the best cell phone on the market…bar none. However, the iPhone IMHO is not the best smart phone on the market…the Blackberry still holds that award. Anyway…that is not what this post is about.

When Bobby and I were traveling back from NY we had a bit of time to mess around with our Blackberry’s….and we both discovered something….there were a lot more shortcuts than we once realized. I am a hot key fan! Love Google Reader because of all the hot keys, love Quicksilver, love Google Desktop…..love my hot keys….and the Blackberry has a ton of them!

Here are some helpful tips I use everyday on my Blackberry Curve:

Message Shortcuts:
Press R to reply to a message
Press L to reply to all
Press T to go to the top of your messages
Press B to go to the bottom of your messages
Press N to go to the next date
Press P to go to the previous date

Browser Shortcuts:
Stop loading a webpage click Escape
Press G to Go To a specific page
Press H for your home page
Press R to refresh your browser
Press T to go to the top of the page
Press B to go to the bottom of the page
Press K for your Favorites

To get a full list of the shortcuts click the question mark (?) on your home screen. You will see all the shortcuts…and there are a ton! I loved by Blackberry before shortcuts….but now our relationship is even that much better!

love facebook

I have been playing around with Facebook for the past month or so. At first I was really thinking….“why on earth do I need one more website, or tool to keep track of?”

Well, I see the power of Facebook, and I am really enjoying it. I now have some apps installed… Love the Twitter app, the Flickr app, really love Mobile Facebook even though I still have to log in everytime I come back. With Facebook I have connected with a friend from back when I was in elementary school, and rediscovered others that I have not connected with for years.

You can check out my Facebook here.

So, do you Facebook? If not, have you tried it for a while?

stupid facebook

Can anyone tell me why I have to log in everytime I go to facebook.com? They even whip me with a log in at Mobile Facebook…. I just don’t get it. STUPID!

google for church

Google opening up online office suite to nonprofits
By Josh Lowensohn – July 12, 2007, 9:00 PM PDT

A buddy of mine just sent me this link. I have been out of the blog world for a few days and missed it.

Looks like Google is opening up there Apps to nonprofits. This is huge for the local church for sure. With just moving your church to Gmail as a church staff email solution your church could save thousands of dollars! Churches spend a ton of money just fighting spam, managing servers, tech staff, etc….

If your church is looking for a great email solution and you don’t want to spend money fighting spam, or managing Exchange servers take a look at Google….it’s free!
