Bottom line, 300 the movie stunk sucked!
Yep, I hated the movie.
Bad writing. Bad acting. Bad storyline. Unneeded nudity. Just bad!
However, the cinematography was great! I found myself getting hung up in the colors, lighting, shots and general camera work. That was great. But not worth the price of admission.
Not sure if this is going to be a popular opinion, but you guys know I really don’t care about that!
Have you seen it?
Too bad…it seems like they wanted to capture that Gladiator magic. The cinematography is what caught my eye in the trailer.
I’m not sure why we even expect anything credible from Hollywood.
Thanks, Terry! I thought the same after seeing the previews and an HBO special on it. Many of my “movie friends” thought that it was awesome so I was considering seeing it. Think I’ll save it for a DVD night. BTW, Gladiator is a part of our regular rotation – it’s just an awesome story.
I wonder if this was due to someone else directing and putting the writing of Frank Miller’s novel to silver screen instead of him doing it himself like what was done in Sin City.
Well that’s a drag, it seems like there isn’t a whole lot left in the theaters right now I even want to see. I guess I’ll have to wait for Pirates:3 in May.

I saw it and actually liked it. I liked the storyline, the clash of fundamental wordlview stories was interesting to me.
A real shame, I’d been wanting to see it but a bunch of guys from church went (I wasn’t able to) and they said it was pretty much crap.
I’m a sucker for the cinematography so I’ll probably rent it just for that (and at the advice of my friend/pastor who saw it – fast forward all the scenes in Greece).
I have seen it. I thought it was good… and I will tell you why:
1) I went to see the violence. So, I couldn’t care less about the acting.
2) It had LOTS of violence. (Met my expectations)
3) The colors and cinematography were great.
I will agree that the acting was not very good… and the nudity was not needed.
I liked it. I went with a group of guys from church.
I liked the highly stylized look and feel. I really liked the surreality. The plot was very simple. It needed to be since the film was all about showcasing the stylization and fighting.
I often find that my like or dislike of a movie hinges upon my expectations before seeing it. (This is why Shyamalan movies get mixed reviews, because people don’t get what they expect.) In 300 I got more of what I was expecting than I expected, so I was happy.
As a father of a 12 year old son I liked the story lines of 1)understanding your purpose for living 2) dying for a cause greater than you 3) leaving a legacy 4) understanding that manhood requires a rite of passage. For those reasons alone I’ll pay another $4.00 to watch the movie.
Terry… I loved 300. Paid full price 2X to see it in less than a week. Once at a premium at the IMAX.
I loved the CGI effects, the inspiring principle of courage in spite of overwhelming odds, the battle of good versus evil, the memorable one-liners, the cliff notes history version of the Spartan warrior way, etc. Yes, granted…simple, simple script. Granted…shallow dialogue. Yet… easy to digest and entertaining. It came at a good time and I needed it as an pressure diffuse. Ahhh…until now, you thought more of me, didn’t you? Hey…I like the deep movies, too!
I just don’t get it. There is no way that I saw the same movie as you guys. We are talking about 300 right?
I got hammered this week by 300 lovers that had nothing but great things to say about it. Maybe I am totally off on this one….I still think it sucked! But I love you all! Kem, I still hold you in the highest esteem, i promise.
Terry…My opinions of 300 averaged out to “mehhhh.” I thought the cinematography was outstanding. I love the underlying “theology” of the movie that some causes are worth sacrificing everything. I thought the acting was a good as the dialogue allowed. The nudity was simply unneccessary and more than I really want to expose my heart to. The dialogue was, as alluded to, horrible. The storyline in Sparta was forgetable. Nice, simplistic explanation of the Spartan code/lifestyle. All in all, the great and the horrible boil down to mediocre.
I keep listening to the news speak about getting free online grant applications so I have been looking around for the best site to get one.
