Unsubscribe

Today has been a day of unsubscribe! About 2 months ago my Google Reader had just over 500 RSS feeds it was sucking in and I was consuming….1 month ago that list was narrowed down to about 300 or so.

Currently, there are 125 subscriptions and my personal goal is to narrow that down to 50. I might even get crazy and cut that number in half and shoot for 25….but I can not go public with that….way to much pressure!

So what is the criteria to stay in my 50? I really don’t know. I guess I would have to say bring some value to my daily life is some way shape or form. That might be spiritual value, tech value, leadership value, something off the wall value, challenge my thinking value, or the core value of a good laugh! Just bring me value….that’s all I am looking for.

Time for the great value of sleep. Oh yea…the goal. I will be down to 50 by the end of the month!

When you get down to the list of 50, I’ll pay money to see the list :)

Way to go Terry. I know I am constantly reviewing my Bloglines, adding and subtracting when I feel like I have too many distractions.

Piggy-backing Tim’s comment, maybe you could set up a way for people to pay to ‘subscribe’ to see your subscriptions? :)

I’m doing the same thing…It’s easy to sign up for the feed, and then forget about it, just pushing “N” through most of your feeds.

    Gotta have value!

Where do I send the check to stay on your list?

Might be more of a pressure to read 125 feeds…that is crazy!

As I blaze through my 500th one for the day…

I am with Anne, except I am a poor college student so I can’t afford to pay but how do I get to stay on the list of 50? I just want to know that I am blogging worthy stuff… But I blog because I want to not for stats or numbers… Thanks Terry!!!

Yeah, I just did the same thing the other day. I’m happy to report that terrystorch.com survived the cut. For now.

Terry Storch managed to stay in on my last cut. But if these crappy entry titles keep going, he’s getting nixed. :)

Lately, I’ve cut back to basically ten of the best web journals and about ten of my favorite developers. I have zero “big” news type sites (CNET, digg, Fox, etc). The only thing I’m actively adding lately are photography sites as my interest is really growing in that area. I’m at about 50 total feeds. And the ones I “actively” read? Friends and family.

I am a big believer in reduction. At certain points it just gets ridiculous to try to keep up with so much content. I asked myself, “Am I that addicted to information?”

And I’m with you, Terry. In the end, it’s all about value.

Once you narrow it down to 50, there will be about 10 that will keep falling off and replaced w/ 10 new ones. There is so much info. out there and new stuff popping up every day. BTW thanks for helping me get my blog launched, I still don’t know what I’m doing.
