great lyrics

This has been a very busy week, so not a lot of posts…. Also, this has been a week of The John Butler Trio, and I love the guys more and more everyday. I now have every album they have every produced! Smoking awesome.

Here is one of my favorite songs, with amazing lyrics!

Artist: The John Butler Trio

Song: Good Excuse

All around I see raining

Things don’t seem to go my way

Got a dark cloud that’s hanging

And it seems to follow me

Oh boy won’t you just wake up

feel the humming

This good world is giving you

better start running

to catch up with your life, catch on up

Before the whole thing is through

Have you once? Have you twice?

Have you even conceived how

Really good boy you do got it

Go take another better look around

You are just another white boy

Thinking you’re so hard

Go take step outside see what’s shaking in the real world

Go take a step outside see what’s shaking in the real world

Go take a step outside see what’s shaking in the real world

But you don’t know

how my heart laments

I really got a good excuse

to complain

My parents got divorced

Can’t heal the pain

And now there is only cheap regrets

I guess thats just the way it be

Is it the world or how I see me

Boy now you are really, really bugging

Yes you are bugging me,

can you just shut right up

Your cup is overflowing, overflowing

And you think it is empty

You don’t even know what side

you are fighting for

Boy won’t you turn your game boy off

Stop pretending

it’s you against the world

I am sick and I am tried of hearing

you always say

I really got a good excuse to complain

My parents got divorced

Can’t heal the pain

Go take a step outside see what’s shaking in the real world

blackberry shortcuts

There has been a lot of iPhone hype over the past month. And yes, I share some of the responsibility in my little circle for some of the hype as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love the iPhone…I think that the iPhone is the best cell phone on the market…bar none. However, the iPhone IMHO is not the best smart phone on the market…the Blackberry still holds that award. Anyway…that is not what this post is about.

When Bobby and I were traveling back from NY we had a bit of time to mess around with our Blackberry’s….and we both discovered something….there were a lot more shortcuts than we once realized. I am a hot key fan! Love Google Reader because of all the hot keys, love Quicksilver, love Google Desktop…..love my hot keys….and the Blackberry has a ton of them!

Here are some helpful tips I use everyday on my Blackberry Curve:

Message Shortcuts:

Press R to reply to a message

Press L to reply to all

Press T to go to the top of your messages

Press B to go to the bottom of your messages

Press N to go to the next date

Press P to go to the previous date

Browser Shortcuts:

Stop loading a webpage click Escape

Press G to Go To a specific page

Press H for your home page

Press R to refresh your browser

Press T to go to the top of the page

Press B to go to the bottom of the page

Press K for your Favorites

To get a full list of the shortcuts click the question mark (?) on your home screen. You will see all the shortcuts…and there are a ton! I loved by Blackberry before shortcuts….but now our relationship is even that much better!

allow me to…

Allow me to introduce to you Zachary Foster, the digerati ninja. Zachary is new to the LifeChurch.tv team, but not new to LifeChurch.tv. Zachary and his family have been around the church for many years, and have volunteered in many different capacities. You can learn more about Zachary and his family at his blog, DoYouFoster.com/blog.

——-

As a Digerati Ninja, I have to be trained in a multitude of techniques. Like my clandestine brothers, I need to call upon all sorts of “weaponry.” My weapon of choice is my sword – my creativity. When I come across a problem my creativity naturally jumps out of its sheath and into my hand, and I attack it! Of course, the sword is also the one that can do me the most harm. My sword can turn on me in an instant. Where once there was an idea, a visual in my brain… it can be gone in a blink of an eye. Of course there are things you can do to try to spark a creative fire again; sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t.

What happens when you’ve looked at all the cool new websites, or visited all the design boards, or read the latest news and nothing comes… a total block! This is every ninja’s worse fear, to run into battle without one’s sword.

So where does a ninja go when he needs to sharpen his creative edge? How does a ninja hone his creative sword? They say iron sharpens iron; well the same is true for artists. I find that there is no better artist to inspire than God.

Now, there are simple things that we all have done before. Go outside and sit in the quiet of the day; break out the journal and see what comes to mind while we unplug and focus on our problem. But what happens if you need something more specific?

Looking for a color palette for you design? While online tools like Kuler and ColorBlender are cool, all they are doing is imitating nature.

Try looking at color pallets that God uses throughout His creation (Flickr is great for this). Allow your eyes to see His colors.

Looking for layout help? Try looking to basic design fundamentals, the golden ratio or symmetry. You’ll see God’s hands all over it. Look at sea shells, vegetation, or space and see how they follow these rules. Allow your eyes to see His patterns.

Looking for unique shapes? Want a different way of seeing that same old object? Google ‘microscopic nature images’ and you’ll see pollen in a whole new way! Allow your eyes to see His shapes.

Looking for a good way to brainstorm? Need to generate layouts on a paper? Look to the Bible… yeah the Bible. Genesis 1. In the first chapter God creates the world… what does He do first? He sets His boarders using light and dark, water and sky. He is sketching out his design with a big old fat sharpie! He doesn’t even think of tackling the content and Adman on day one. Like all good sketching He holds out on the fine details until the end. Allow your brain to see His methods.

While it’s great to stay on top of the latest trends, and to race after what is new, I can tell you that every day I’m learning that there really is nothing new under the sun. And I am at my best when I open up my eyes to the trail the Creator left for us to follow.

Do you have any thoughts on how to see the trail God left for us to follow?
