blackberry shortcuts

There has been a lot of iPhone hype over the past month. And yes, I share some of the responsibility in my little circle for some of the hype as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love the iPhone…I think that the iPhone is the best cell phone on the market…bar none. However, the iPhone IMHO is not the best smart phone on the market…the Blackberry still holds that award. Anyway…that is not what this post is about.

When Bobby and I were traveling back from NY we had a bit of time to mess around with our Blackberry’s….and we both discovered something….there were a lot more shortcuts than we once realized. I am a hot key fan! Love Google Reader because of all the hot keys, love Quicksilver, love Google Desktop…..love my hot keys….and the Blackberry has a ton of them!

Here are some helpful tips I use everyday on my Blackberry Curve:

Message Shortcuts:
Press R to reply to a message
Press L to reply to all
Press T to go to the top of your messages
Press B to go to the bottom of your messages
Press N to go to the next date
Press P to go to the previous date

Browser Shortcuts:
Stop loading a webpage click Escape
Press G to Go To a specific page
Press H for your home page
Press R to refresh your browser
Press T to go to the top of the page
Press B to go to the bottom of the page
Press K for your Favorites

To get a full list of the shortcuts click the question mark (?) on your home screen. You will see all the shortcuts…and there are a ton! I loved by Blackberry before shortcuts….but now our relationship is even that much better!

  • I absolutely drool over the iPhone. I am definitely a gadget geek. I’m not buying anything now though. I really want to see generation 2.

    I’ve got 2 questions.
    1) What would make the iPhone great?
    2) What do you think of the Pearl?

  • Good questions.

    1) What would make the iPhone great?
For me, it is missing 2 key components. First, wireless sync. I have been a Blackberry Enterprise Server user for a long time, and I can not imagine having to connect my device to my computer….Not an option for me. Second…the keyboard. I am a 70-80% email user on my smart phone. The iPhone is not a good email tool for me because of the keyboard. There might be a way to add a bluetooth keyboard, or a cool 3rd party case with a fold out keyboard. That might work.

    2) What do you think of the Pearl?
I had the Pearl and gave it to my wife. Love the size of the Pearl, but as a 70-80% email user the keyboard was the death of the Pearl for me…yes, it does learn and get better at understanding your typing, but bottom line for me I lost at least 50% of my typing speed on the Pearl keyboard…
