Digerati Tool Belt

I have been getting a ton of questions about what the digerati team uses for developing, computers, etc. So here is a list as they came to my mind of what is in our tool belt.

Digerati Developer Tools:
Mac System (Mac Pro or iMac)
Leopard
Coda - a wonderful editor
Safari - greatest browser
Firefox w/Firebug
iTunes - need great music
Cyberduck - FTP tool
NovaMind - mind mapping
iChat
Photoshop
Terminal

Web Tools
Basecamp - great project management
Trac / Subversion - manage your code!
MediaTemple Hosting - grid hosting
Softlayer.com - dedicated hosting

Thats all I can think of. If you have anymore specific questions let me know in the comments.

  • You should look into getting your people free Highrise accounts if they have much contact with people outside the digerati team.

I used Basecamp for years to manage projects, but Highrise really revolutionized my ability to manage my contacts and conversations.

  • Leopard, Safari, Coda! I can’t wait for the day we are all Apple, around the whole organization.

  • I’d recommend two additional plugins for Firefox:

    The Web Developer Toolbar

    TIDY HTML Validator

I really dig Transmit, the FTP client for OS X from the makers of Coda. (I also like Coda, but still prefer the coding environment of Dreamweaver. Call me crazy.)

  • :P

    Opera >= Firefox > Safari > IE

  • Thanks for sharing that list with us.

I like the Web Developer toolbar for Firefox (http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/) and I also use FileZilla FTP, another free FTP client.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Right now I’m loving DW + Tortoise SVN client + WIn XP. ;)

I might get stoned by the rest of my team tomorrow…but I’m prepared.

Note: I normally run a Mac but it’s under the knife in IT right now. :)

  • I love Photoshop and I use Firefox. However I prefecr Comapping for mind mapping and Wrike http://www.wrike.com for project management. Especially I’m keen on Wrike, it’s simple and has very useful features. I like it much more than Basecamp.

  • Our church is very small compared to Lifechurch.tv and we are just getting on to our feet in terms of IT (we can’t afford hire staff, so we’re all volunteers). We’ve been using a linux box for a server mainly because it is very cost effective.

I really like the Xserve and hope that one day we can get one, I’m not sure how justifiable it is though for its price. I’d like to know what kind of servers do you guys primarily use.

  • I’ve been using transmit too, but have had a few odd behaviors from time to time - can’t change directories, occasional crashes etc.

Totally agree on the recommendation of NovaMind - fantastic Mind Mapping software.
