little nuts right now
There has been a lack of activity and posting on the blog, and for that I am sorry. The past few weeks have been over the top nuts. Trying to get Second Life out of the “lab” and into production, as well as 4 other rather large projects going.
This week we are putting the final finishing touches on our new LifeChurch.tv web site. Now this is a crazy story that I really don’t have the time to go into, but the LifeChurch.tv web site became my baby a month or so after I came on the team. I am very excited about working on this project and excited about getting it out of the “lab”. My biggest problem with the site, old and new is the content management system it is built on. Not that it is bad, it’s not…it is actually a very good CMS, the problem is there are really no content management systems that can handle 11 campuses, and many more coming! So, there are tons of limitations but we are dealing with them. As I told the leadership team here at Life, “we are tearing down the building, but we are forced to use the current foundation!” Why? Because we only had 60 days to completely redesign, renavigate, redo a lot of images and copy, and launch! Not much time…the team I am a part of totally rocks!
Anyway, here is a sneak peak at what you will see in a week or so. Enjoy.

What service are you guys using for ‘Online Giving’?

Great question. Most everything exists inside the CMS, or is custom built modules inside the CMS. So, we hade a custom module built that connects with the CCard processing.
This area, and a lot of other connections into our Church Management system will be greatly improved with LifeChurch.tv 2.0 that is on the whiteboard now, and will be a late 07 release.

We use the same CMS, and while it does make for easy updating and page creation, it does have it limits.
From a functional standpoint, the new site looks like fewer clicks to get where you want to go. Easier navigation is always a good thing.
Looks like your team has done a great job in a very limited amount of time.

Terry: Great work here. The usability looks to be through the roof compared to the current (soon-to-be-old) iteration. Only the live interaction will prove that, but visually I’m already loving it. I dig the direction you’ve taken and thank God that home page Flash nav will be out of the way! (At least, I hope that’s the case.
For what it’s worth, the ExpressionEngine CMS has absolutely floored me in every single way. I firmly believe that anything can be done with EE as long as it is developed properly at the onset. It takes a bit of work to get things just right, but once it’s rolling, the system just clicks into place and delivers content with speed and precision. I think 11 or 111 campuses could easily be managed with EE. Seriously.
I just wanted to add my thoughts on it in the event you were in the market for a change-up on the next big build.
